Flores, Péten, Guatemala.
Florès, Petén. After the weapons and drugs, the business of wild species is the third largest global traffic. ARCAS, internationally recognized Guatemalan NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), fights for more than 20 years against this plague that threatens many protected species. Each year, the rescue center receives 400 to 600 animals confiscated by customs or returned by individuals (parrots, macaws, monkeys, etc. ...). Thanks to volunteers' help come from the whole world, these animals are looked after, fed and some follow a program of rehabilitation to be reintroduced in their natural environment.
Fernando Martinez Galicia, director of the center, opens its doors and explains the objectives of his organization.
